Financial Support
Foster parents are paid a daily board rate per
foster child or youth in the home. We ensure that
other expenses are also covered such as clothing,
medical and dental needs, and school and recreation
related costs.
Other support
We support our foster families in other ways,
such as:
- Initial training and ongoing educational
opportunities.
- Ongoing professional support from our social
workers.
- Access to therapeutic services that the child
may need.
- A regular newsletter to share news and help
create bonds between foster parents.
Foster parents also have access to learning opportunities, mutual support
and networking through the local Foster Parent Association and the Foster Parents Society of Ontario.
We also offer a joint program with Enterphase Child & Family Services to provide support to foster parents outside of our regular office hours.
Staff members are available by phone every evening and throughout the weekends, including holidays. They provide assistance to foster parents in managing difficult situations, adjusting to a new placement, or just offering a sympathetic ear when needed.
If necessary, a worker will visit the home to provide support in a time of crisis.
Durham CAS is commited to respecting the diversity
of our children in care, staff, volunteers, foster
parents, community partners and the community
we serve.
The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants
(OCASI) has developed a website, settlement.org with some very useful information for new residents
in Ontario. Included is a section with cultural
profiles that our staff, volunteers and foster
parent may find useful.
Each cultural profile provides an overview of
life and customs in the profiled country. While
the profile provides insight into some customs,
it does not cover all facets of life, and the
customs described may not apply in equal measure
to all newomers from the profiled country.
