Helping Parents

The programs and services of Durham Children's Aid Society are designed to meet the needs of the children and families throughout Durham Region.

We provide protection services to children throughout our region, but we also provide support for families when they need help.

Many children with whom we are working remain in the care of their families. That is, they never come into foster care. Our social workers visit with these families regularly, offering ongoing support in many ways, such as counselling, acquiring appropriate medical treatment, ensuring educational needs are met, or referring to countless other resources.

Community Education

We offer an active Speakers Bureau that responds to education and training requests from our community at large. Our speakers are able to offer information and training on such areas of our work as child abuse and reporting, adoption, foster care, effective parenting, volunteering and other areas of our programs and services.

We also provide training in identifying and reporting abuse and on our services for our professional partners in the community, such as police, teachers and doctors.

If your school or organization would be interested in a presentation by one of our speakers, please call us.

Visit the following websites of our community partners, for some great resources on parenting and child welfare issues.
