Emergency Duty Worker                                    

CURRENT SALARY     

$28.43 per hour                                        
                                 
We currently have a temporary Emergency Duty Worker position available for a period up to 14 months.  This position must be available to report to the office Monday to Friday at 3:30 p.m.  The normal work hours will be 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position provides EMERGENCY/ENHANCED child protection services, which ensures that all children coming to the attention of the Society are in a safe situation until the regular staff can assess the need for and provide additional service.  Emergency Duty Workers are responsible for BUT NOT LIMITED TO the investigation of child abuse allegations, serious neglect and lack of supervision situations where the risk to the child is imminent.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Child and Youth Worker Diploma or a Social Work Degree with related Child Welfare or Social Service experience.

Knowledge and experience in investigations, crisis intervention, interviewing, documentation, assessment, apprehensions and problem-solving in a Child Welfare or similar environment is preferred.  Personal characteristics include strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work alone and the ability to work in crisis situations.  Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and related legislation is an asset.

Emergency Duty workers are required to respond to calls within the Durham Region in a short time frame, therefore, applicants from within or just outside of the Durham Region are preferred.  A “G” class drivers licence and car is necessary for the completion of the duties of an Emergency Duty Worker and it is required that Emergency Duty Workers carry $l,000,000 public liability insurance and appropriate business-use insurance as required by their insurer.
